Fragment of plain woven undyed linen with a large, pointed oval tapestry woven panel in purple wool, with a geometric design picked out in undyed linen in flying thread brocading. The warp threads of the ground weave are collected alternating (2-3-2-3) to the tapestry warp. The decoration consists of a geometric pattern of interlacing double ribbons, enclosing rosettes and small flowers. The panel is enclosed by a border of guilloche containing stylised vine leaves. Ground weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 22-24/cm) Linen weft (S-spun, 18/cm) Tapestry woven panel: Linen warp (S-spun) Wool weft (Z-spun, 40/cm) 8-9 ribs per cm
