Notes Silk embroidered onto linen, also using linen thread. Egyptian, Mamluk period, ca. AD1250-1500. The backing linen is white and plain weave. The silk background is blue and linen threads are used to define the pattern. One side is selvedge of a border of approx. 8mm of linen. Otherwise the panel is bordered top and bottom with a border (approx. 10mm) of a line of Xs at an angle. The panel is of three heart shaped leaves that swirl in to meet each other. There are some holes and staining.
