Silk brocade velvet, 1730s, Ottoman Turkey
Malzemeler ve teknikler
Woven silk brocade velvet, with vertical and horizontal point repeat with 4 minimum pattern areas. Satin foundation structure: 4/1 satin; warp count: 65; silk, ivory, 1 ply, slight S-twist. Weft: cotton, 1 ply, S-twist. Satin & Velvet warp order 3-1-3. Velvet structure, red and green silk, 1 bundle, no detectable twist. Pile counts, warps 12, along weft: 16. Binding weft threads: silk, super-skinny, white. Brocade structure: part brocaded; 4/1 twill, count 20. Shots between pile: 2; metal & twist: silver? Z. Brocaded only in the centre of the medallion and at the spandrels. Very little metal remains. Selvedges: dimensions 2 cms. 3 layers: inner most: more warp visible; middle: more cotton weft visible; outer: more silk warp visible. Silk warp visible in selvedges the same as satin warp.
