Saddle bag of wool pile on woollen warps. WARP: white wool; Z2S; 16 threads per inch (62 per dm). WEFT: red wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 12 knots per inch (50 per dm). PILE: wool; 8 colours: red, orange, green, dark blue, blue, light blue, dark brown, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 96 knots per sq. inch (1550 knots per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: one cord oversewn with red wool with tufts of further red wool possibly from when the bag was being made up. END FINISH: lower: cut. Upper: 7 blocks divided horizontally by slits; each block is 1" (2.5 cm) high and decorated in a chevron design. There are the remains of 6 tassels. Then a 1 cm. band of chevrons with passes of red and blue wool and then a 1 cm. band of plain weave. Turned and stitched into place. DESIGN: Field: blue with 4 1/2 bands of red botehs divided by simple sprigs which are mainly white in the lower part and brown in the upper. Main border: white ground with bracketed diamonds joined along the central axis. Inner and outer border: narrow borders with multi-coloured blocks.
