Ok-bash WARP: light grey wool; Z2S; 18 threads per inch (69 per dm). WEFT: brown wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 14 knots per inch (55 per dm). PILE: wool; 6 colours: dark red, red, orange, green, dark blue, cream; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 126 knots per sq. inch (1897 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: Left: 2 cords oversewn with red and blue wool. Right: knotted pile forming 4 pointed flaps. The plain weave btween them has been cut in order to sew the flaps together to make a pointed bag. The areas of plain weave remain within the bag. The outer 4 seams are oversewn in a red and blue chevron pattern and there are 2 tassels at the base of 2 seams and 1 tassel at the end of the 3rd seam with traces of a tassel at the point. END FINISH: Both: plain weave with dark red and cream weft, turned and stitched in place. These ends were then decorated with blocks of oversewing in a red and blue chevron. The top left 29 cms of both ends was oversewn in this manner. When folded, the right hand 22.5 cm. of both sides were bound together by similar oversewing leaving a side opening as well as a top opening to the bag. DESIGN: described as in use: field: zigzag bands forming wide angled, saw-edged triangles; divided vertically into four rows by four narrow, striped, multi-coloured rows. Border: white ground with alternating and linked red, dark red and blue eight-pronged figures top and bottom with similar siz-pronged figures along the sides. Flaps: each has a stepped triangle. The outermost row is white. Catalogue date: 3.8.94
