Plain weave linen, probably hand woven, embroidered with silk in straight stitches, including satin stitch, pulled thread work; whitework; rolled hem on all four sides. The central panel [32 x 31 cm] has four decorative corners patterned with 6 different bands, leaving a large hexagonal central space outlined with a small repeating pattern of reciprocal trefoils in satin stitch. The hexagon itself is decorated with a series of 8-pointed stars in satin stitch leading into a central octagon divided up into rectangles and lozenges of pulled thread work and satin stitch. The central panel itself is outlined with a narrow band of pulled thread work, with 2 abandoned decorative sections by two corners, either side of a wider band of lozenges inside hexagonal forms of satin stitch and pulled thread work. There are bands of needleweaving within this design. Linen thread: Z-spun Embroidery thread: white silk, 2S There are no selvedges.
