Notes
This dish is an example of how the potters of Iznik, north-west Anatolia, expanded their colour palette in the 1530s. They added a rich green colour to their shades of blue and white and exploited this new colour in their designs. As if to celebrate, they created compositions of lush, spreading trees, which expand from the central area of this dish up the sides and right out to the rim.
