Notes
Silk woven lampas. Possibly Near Eastern or Byzantium, ca. AD1000-1300. The background weft is of gold, silk thread creating a netting effect. The design laid on top is of cream/gold griffins/winged horses and floral designs on a green background. The piece is rectangular with one corner torn away, has stitching holes along one edge and is stained. Possibly from a furnishing. Very similar to T.139:1-1935.
