Notes
A square panel of compound woven silk in orange and buff/cream (samite). Egyptian, Byzantine or Syrian, ca. AD700-900. A floral roundel encloses a tree growing from a vase and on either side, facing away from each other, are deer suckling its young. The fabric is brittle. On the right edge there appears to be a join in the fabric and some needle holes remain. The colour on this strip is slightly brighter.
