Notes A fragment of compound twill, silk. Egyptian, ca. AD900-1200. Two-toned in blue-green and tan. The pattern is of oval roundels enclosing a geometric star shape between larger roundels enclosing two birds (cockerels?), their heads facing outwards over their shoulders. A tree like icon sits below and between them. Below this row is a row including the star roundels surrounded by geometric crosses. The roundel row starts to repeat beneath this. The piece has a number of holes and there are extra fragments included. Similar in colour scheme and weave to 212-1904. 1/2 weft-faced twill. Single binding and figure-harness warps; 3 wefts. Warps: binding Z silk, tan; figure-harness Z silk, tang. Wefts: Silk, undyed, yellow, blue-green.
