Notes
An incomplete pair of fibre open shoes. Egyptian, ca. AD1800-1900 (possibly). Round toe (flattened off) and round heel. Treadsole: Swayed. Rope like fibre woven across five vertical, thick strips (8mm wide) of same fibre (papyrus?). Toe knot protrudes through. Whip stitch, with fibre cord, sews sole to upper approx 15mm apart. Bright golden in colour. Insole: Of palm leaf woven 2 over, 2 under. Upper: One piece that joins at medial quarter, sewn with reinforcing strip of palm. Top edge sewn over with palm. Quarters and vamp edges (no vamp covering toes) woven 2 over, 2 under.
