Plain weave unbleached cotton, hand-woven, embroidered with silk in satin and other straight stitches, pulled thread work, whitework. The central field [58.5 x 23 cm] is largely undecorated except for an inverted V-shaped band [a mihrab niche] patterned with a band of a series of finely worked pulled thread rectangles, complete or broken, edged with satin stitch arranged in a zigzag pattern and a satin stitch rectangle centre, terminating in a lozenge form at the apex. Both edges of the band are decorated with satin stitch arranged in a zigzag [a] and stylised leaf forms [b]. [b] and a simpler form of [a] edges the wide outer band which contains repeat lozenges as found at the apex while each of the four outer corners is decorated by a square [variations of the finely worked pulled thread rectangles]. The white silk is 2S. No selvedges.
