fragment - full width Warp: white cotton; Z5S; depressed in places; 14 threads per inch (59 per dm). Weft: light pink wool; Z3S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 8 knots per inch (32 per dm). Pile: wool; 9 colours: red, yellow, green, dark blue, blue, dark pink, light pink (faded), dark brown, white (NB: apprently the yellow has bled at the back of the carpet, giving a general yellow hue on that side); asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 threads; 56 knots per sq. inch (944 per sq. dm). Side finish: both sides have two cords overcast in dark brown wool. End finish: both ends are missing. Design: Field: dark blue ground; 2 bands of star-like flowers alternating with multi-coloured palmettes link two bands of yellow hoops. Another band of flowers lies between the hoops with a half band above and below; these flowers are in longitudinal rows within and between three pink hourglass outlines that extend vertically over the two bands of hoops. Throuhout the field green angular stems bear small cream and pink flowers. Main border: white ground with green, angular meandering stem with serrated green leaves,, pink birds, small blue or yellow flowers and large pink and dark pink blossoms. Inner and outer border: yellow ground with dark blue floral meander.
