Weft: grey cotton; Z spun; unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot and 2 shoots after each row of knots; 17 knots per inch (68 per dm). Pile: wool; 9 colours - red, yellow, green, dark blue, blue, light blue, brown, light brown, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 threads; 221 knots per sq. inch (3332 per sq. dm). Side finish: left-hand side has 1 cord oversewn with red wool. Right-hand side is cut. End finish: both ends are cut. Design: Main border: red ground with elaborate floral meander. Outer borders: 1 and 3 have a dark blue ground with the same floral meander; 2 has yellow ground with different floral meander; 4 has light blue ground with yellow/dark blue spots. Inner borders: 1 and 5 are as 4 above; 2 as with 1/3 above; 3 as 2 above; 4 has red ground with floral meander. |
