| Notes | This is part of a group which was acquired in 1870 as an example of the traditional jewellery of Algeria. It is more likely that these pieces were made as souvenirs. Interest in traditional jewellery of all kinds, then usually called peasant jewellery, was very high at the time, and the bold designs and bright colours of these pieces would have seemed typically exotic. However it is only the decoration that is Algerian, as the earrings and brooch are European in form and quite different from those worn by the local population. |
| Malzemeler ve teknikler | Silver-plated brass with applied wire decoration and set with red and blue pastes Plated Glass Paste |
| Fiziksel açıklama | Star-shaped brooch of silver-plated brass with six roundels between the points of the star. It is decorated with a design of thick applied wire, which holds round cabochons of red and blue opaque glass, imitating coral and turquoise. There is an open raised boss in the centre, holding a red cabochon. |
