Notes
This volume is one half of a divided manuscript which is commonly referred to as a collection of epics. These plates belong to the half containing the Shahnameh (Book of Kings), which is today part of the collections of the Chester Beatty Library. The other half of the manuscript, which consists of shorter epics written in imitation of Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, is held by the British Library. None of the illustrations are considered original to the manuscript but were instead added to it, perhaps ten years after the date of its production.
