Notes
This manuscript is a collection of 39 Sufi stories and texts, in addition to poems and letters written in Persian, Turkish, and Arabic. Although there are no miniatures accompanying the written texts, each chapter opens with a finely decorated title-type title. The contents of the manuscript include, among other things, interpretations of the Holy Qur’an (tafsir), tales of Sufism, poems of the qasida type (an Arabic poetic form similar to a lyric poem or an ode), in addition to philosophical treatises dealing with the Christian Gospel. Although the date of copying is precisely known (1123 AH / 1711 AD) because it appears explicitly in the manuscript’s conclusion (the colophon), the place of its copying is not mentioned in the written record.

Cilt
The manuscript is half-bound in red leather with ornamental gilding on the spine upon which the title of the manuscript is impressed in golden letters, reading "neun und dreyssig mystische Abhandlungen" ("thirty-nine mystical treatises"). The material used for the boards of the book itself is cypress wood. This binding was custom made for Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall.
