Notes This mosque lamp belongs to an ancient group of glass lamps, likely made for the Mamluk Sultan Al-Nasir Nasir al-Din Hassan (734-763 AH/1334-1361 AD). An unusual feature of this lamp is a panel of stylized Kufic calligraphy, alternating with thuluth inscriptions, on which we read: “What was made for His Majesty, the Most High, the servant of the Lord, the Great Prince, the Owner.” Around and below the lamp's body are six repeated inscriptions of the word "the world."
