The piece is a teardrop-shaped buckle with a hook and loop, each teardrop decorated on one side with floral and floral details on a green velvet ground. The delicately worked designs surround a motif that replicates the teardrop shape of the buckle, and they - that is, the two tears - are embroidered with pearls and emeralds in their centre.
