Esfandyar, the eldest son and crowned prince of the legendary Iranian king Goshtasp, was falsely accused of planning to seize his father's kingdom. His father, who did not know the truth, ordered him to be chained and imprisoned in Hasanjabli. In a subsequent battle with his enemies, the king regretted his action and freed Isfandiar so that he could provide him with military assistance. Goshtasp was depicted here on his throne and wearing a blue dress. The color blue was often used in Persian paintings to indicate key people, especially kings.
