Notes There are two blooming lotus-shaped flowers drawn in black and white on a cobalt blue ground. Half of the blooming flower can be seen in the lower right corner, while the full blooming flower appears on the body on the left. Behind the slab, the Arabic letters: “Lam Raa Lam Raa” lr lr were carved into the dough. Tiles of similar limited color and treatment similar to the typical blooming lotus flowers were used to redecorate the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem during the extensive restoration ordered by Suleiman the Magnificent. The tile could therefore have been made in Ottoman workshops in Syria and date back to the mid-16th century.
