The decoration of the dish is densely floral, including red roses and fresh blue lavender with red details, and other blue and red flowers on branches with green leaves emerging from a lush bouquet. A large serrated leaf of the type known as saz is placed diagonally across the naturally drawn flowers. It is colored blue on the outside, but on the inside it is shaped like successive white and red beads. The edge is decorated with a wavy border executed in blue and black. Saaz leaves appear frequently in late Iznik ceramics of the 11th/17th century, but its origins go back to the decorative style that developed in the 9th/15th century in Iran and was then used on pieces of all materials during the Ottoman period.
