Notes This piece dates back to the Middle Ages. It is a long iron shield that covers the body and extends from the head to below the knees. It is equipped with small plates at the neck and larger plates at the abdomen to increase protection. Iron steel armor like this usually shows signs of use in war, and sometimes shows signs of injury, such as a torn sleeve. This shield is decorated with geometric shapes, slogans, and writings executed in gold and in thuluth script, but most of them have faded. It is only possible to read some of the words on the shield, which are, “With the drawing of… the high… the great… the Mawlawi…” From these words it can be inferred that this shield belongs to a prince or a high-ranking military commander.
