Notes This album shows portraits of Mughal emperors. The upper portrait shows Jangir (r. 1605-27) at Jaharuka in a scene looking out of a window, while the lower portrait depicts his son Shah Jahan (r. 1627-58) in larger dimensions with a golden cloud or halo surrounding his head. Most famous today is the building of the Taj Mahal, where Shah Jahan was also an expert in gemstones. In this portrait it is He is richly decorated with necklaces, bracelets and dangling ornaments of pearls, emeralds, rubies and other gems. He wears an orange turban adorned with strings of pearls, rubies and emeralds and a turban of sapphires (sarbeek) made from the feathers of a black egret. (Katar) with his right arm holding a sword, and he holds his imperial ring in his left hand, which is evidence of his sovereignty.
