Notes
This basin shows scenes of a sitting ruler cross-legged with musicians and his guard of honour. The guards were court officials or princes, and were depicted in groups of five and carrying signs indicating their positions: an axe, a cup – a symbol of a cupbearer, a scepter, a label, perhaps a polo label, swords, and a goose, perhaps a symbol of the official in charge of the royal hunt.
