Notes
Three seats are preserved from the choir seat. The luxuriously carved arms mimic columns with a smooth trunk, finely crafted base and capital. The curtain-shaped arches separating the three seats attest to a strong Almohad influence. The corners are decorated with prominent wheels. Barely any traces of polychromy are visible, except the dominant red tint and some other bits; However, we notice a painted lion, somewhat damaged, while obtaining the piece. The dominant decorative elements remain the torrents and the multi-colored heraldic motifs that refer to the Kingdom of Lyon. This work is remarkable, not only for its internal quality, but also because it attests to the importance of the Kingdom of Lyon in the flowering of woodcarving during the Mudéjar period. This piece belongs to the low type seats; Together with the Astudillo benches, also preserved in the National Archaeological Museum, they constitute one of the most magnificent examples of this type of ebony, in the general context of the Mudejar style.
