Notes The jar belongs to a larger group of ceramic vessels that were very common during the Qajar era, which shows the development of the blue and white style. Its shape dates back to the Mamluk era in Syria and was adopted in China and Safavid Persia. It is used to store food, including olive oil, and is known in Romania as “sheep fat jars” because of the coloring under the glass and the special smell that it emits to this day. Here the elegant outlines of the drawings, especially those at the shoulder, show the variety of multi-lobed shapes and the dynamic composition, which is remarkable. Totally. In the twentieth century, such jars were sometimes transformed into lamp bases, as shown by the hole and groove for passing an electrical wire at the bottom.
