The piece is a mosque lamp with a running inscription that says: “This was made for our Lord Sultan Malik Küçük, may God protect him and enlighten his grave.” This lamp was made for the tomb of the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Al-Din Kujuk Ibn Al-Nasir Ibn Qalun, who ruled as a child for six months in the year 746 AH (1341-42 AD). In September 1345, he was assassinated by his younger brother Shaban, and his tomb was built in Cairo in 1346-1347.
