Notes The ivory jewelery box belongs to a small collection of artisanally carved ivory pieces made for the Umayyad court in Spain. This jewelry box is the largest in the collection and is carved from a single elephant tusk. It is also one of the oldest artifacts. It had an Arabic inscription around the lid, which was undoubtedly removed when the piece - like many pieces like it - found a new place in the medieval Christian context.
