Notes
The instantly recognizable star-like shape lends part of its name to this rug. The carpet is characterized by a clear arrangement of its decorations and a distinctive palette of five colors, red, blue, yellow, green and white, in addition to some secondary colors such as purple or pink. The city of Uşak in Western Anatolia has been a center of carpet production since the second half of the fifteenth century. In addition to carpets dominated by the star motif, carpets with large medallions were also produced here. Many Ushak rugs were exported to Europe where this particular design found here was particularly popular.
