Notes Fabrics on which the phrase “Shahada” was written were left for private use and considered suitable for handling only by those who were pure, including children and those who had not yet reached puberty. This lampas garment for a child was made of woven fabric of chevrons and decorated with inscriptions that included the phrase “Shahada” and Qur’anic verses. The inscriptions on the garment were written in gelatinous color on a crimson ground. The lampas cloth was often used as a covering for graves and as talismanic fabric.
