Notes
The piece is a full-pile wool carpet, which is called the oshak design. The bright red area is decorated with a four-part medallion, two half medallions and a small part of another medallion, all in deep blue. In the center and in the lobes of the medallions there are chambers formed by arabesque elements filled with palmettes and leaves. The rest of the area has a complex floral pattern of scrolls bearing leaves and palmettes. Within the borders, the arabesques overlap with the scrolls of the palmettes and the framed bands surround intermittent flowered scrolls. The carpet is asymmetrical as it has been shortened and reshaped from its original borders.
