Notes
These pieces of slab are the shrine of Boyan Qulikhan in Bukhara. The turquoise glazed slab is decorated with an intricate white vine pattern. The decoration is not drawn but cut in relief in clay using a complex technique. These tiles were part of a decoration group for the tomb of Boyan Gulikhan (1155/62/67 - 1227), who ruled the Chagatai Khanate Empire and whose tomb is located in Bukhara, today's Pakistan. The interior was covered with tiles. And abroad. The current piece was initially installed on the external facade. The Victoria and Albert Museum owns many tiles from the shrine.
