Fragment of a frieze depicting two knights in battle with a dragon and a lion. The wide upper border includes a geometric composition of stars and polygons, while the main background consists of a floral arrangement of vines and palmettes. Within this frame two knights are seen facing each other: one to the left, in an attacking position, stabbing a dragon; The other, to the right, kills a lion. The faces and costumes of the two depicted figures are Seljuk in character. The fidelity to the nature in which the two horses were drawn, as well as the way in which the knight turns from his horse to stab the lion with his sword, add a lively character to the scene. The depiction of a knight stabbing a dragon is a common theme in Anatolia during the Seljuk era, as well as before. There are Christian paintings that depict Saint George killing a dragon in the same way.
