Notes
This miniature depicts the northern goshawk, a species of bird used for hunting. This painting is attributed to Meher Chand, one of the important artists during the second half of the eighteenth century. The representation of animals in paintings was adopted by Mughal artists from the time of Akbar and continued later during the reigns of Janjir and Shah Jahan. This 18th-century painting is mounted on a decorated frame originally from the royal album made for Shah Jahan.
