Notes
In her study of the Bab al-Kaaba curtains in Topkapi Palace, Tulya Tezcan identified four main styles. The first is the curtain bearing the name of Sultan Suleiman the Great and the date 950 AH / 1543 - 4 AD. The second style to which this curtain belongs appears to have been common for a long time and is known for examples dating back to the late sixteenth century to the beginning of the eighteenth century. Distinctive details of this style include five arches at the top, as well as zigzag/broken panels and alternating architectural decorative elements at the bottom. The order of manufacture and date are located directly above the previous information. This curtain was ordered to be made and presented to the Kaaba by Sultan Ahmed I.
