Notes
Bursa was an important center for the Iranian silk trade and became an advanced center for the production of silk fabrics. Because of this, it not only supplied the Ottoman court, but silk from Bursa was a desirable export commodity to Europe, as shown by the robe. At the same time, Italian silk was in great demand in the Ottoman Empire, and one result of this widespread exchange is seen in the mutual influence of forms, so that recurring artistic details are the only features that tell us where the silk was woven, in Italy or in the Ottoman Empire.
