Notes
Luxury wooden pieces - furniture and furnishings, as well as architectural elements and inlays with precious materials such as ivory, ebony, silver, gold, mother-of-pearl and turquoise mother-of-pearl, were produced in limited quantities for the Ottoman courts starting in the sixteenth century. This rare and exquisite game board from the first half of the tenth/sixteenth century from the collection of the Los Angeles Museum of Art gives a wonderful example of this medium. When opened, it produces dice inlaid with ivory and ebony with silver and fine mosaic details, and when closed. It offers two other playing opportunities, including a chess board inlaid with ivory and ebony.
