Notes
This jewelery is richly decorated with arabesques, silver inlay and inscriptions, and bears the name of the craftsman who made it, Ismail Ibn Ward from Mosul, who trained himself with a master craftsman also from Mosul. This is the oldest work in history, which attests to the importance of Mosul as a center for the manufacture of inlaid metal works. Even after the year 1261 and the destruction of the city by the Mongols, the craftsmen who worked everywhere bore the title of Mawsili as a guarantee of quality.
