In building the southern section of the Norman church (the Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti), he benefited from an existing wall, which is the northern wall of the Arab-Islamic hall. It is a rectangular hall that was of great importance, and one of the two width sides was cut to expand the church. The Islamic building was composed of three sections: the rectangular hall (the Arab Hall), the portico, and the surrounding wall. Parts of the structure of the southern wall of the church remain from it (the Arab Hall). As for its measurements, it is (17.76 m It was divided longitudinally into two porticoes divided by five columns and forming square sections, with twelve arches supported by them, distributed among the square sections (six on each side). Each square section contained a window with an arch through which light entered. Today, this Arab hall is covered by three large intersecting arches and was built in 905 / 1500. |
