Notes
In the second half of the eighteenth century, the Tuvan neighborhood in Istanbul witnessed the establishment of a market for hookah makers. Most of the sixty existing workshops produced a wide variety of items such as coffee cups, writing sets, mugs, pourers, jugs, trays, etc. The high quality of the red pottery manufactured here was often decorated with silver and gold, and some of the dark brown vessels have silver inlaid decoration. The surface of this long-necked vase is divided into sixteen areas. Vertical column filled with botanical drawings inlaid with silver and flowers. Grooves cut by rows of printed circular designs separate the sections. The printed designs as well as the precious silver inlays are reminiscent of the skillful decoration of metal vessels and jewelry.
