Notes
This painting from the manuscript of Khosrow and Shirin, written by the poet Al-Hataifi, shows the importance of Persian literature in the Ottoman world. The manuscript contains seven paintings executed in a distinctive style that is linked to the Western Iranian tradition of Aq Kyunulu but also borrows elements from European sources. This scene depicts Khosrow riding his horse Shabdiz while hunting, and poetry on the last page of the manuscript identifies the only artist who executed the work and who completed the planning, polishing, camouflaging, and painting as Suzi (the Burning One).
