Notes
Glass vessels were decorated using the technique of relief cutting, which has a special place in the history of Islamic glasswork. Although many such vessels were produced, only a few exceptional examples with complex cutting have survived to this day. One such example, this bottle in the collection of the Aga Khan Museum, can be dated to the ninth or tenth century. As for the geometric decoration of notable examples of relief cutting, it appeared during this relatively short period. Iranian glass factories appear to have specialized in these models.
