Notes This linen fabric (Tiraz) is lively with colorful animals in varying red, blue and yellow. Unlike most Tiraz fabrics whose primary decoration is an embroidered pattern, this fabric shows a wild rabbit and peacocks facing each other. While this motif refers to pre-Islamic Coptic and Sassanid fabrics, the late date of the fabric, the eleventh century, reflects the shift towards a return to the classical school in Fatimid artistic production. There are two bands of recurring text bearing the word “Allah” in Arabic.
