The upper and lower sections of the neck and shoulders have inscriptions in Kufic script against a matte ring-shaped background. Starting from the band around the top of the neck are the words: “This belongs to the Most Glorious Owner, the All-Knowing, the Just, the Supporter of God, the Victorious, and the Conqueror of all the kingdom (supporting the state) and the religion (supporting religion). May God perpetuate his glory.” The similarities of the piece to Sassanian silverware and Sassanian fabric decoration and at the beginning of the Islamic era are clear and indicate that the decorative heritage of silverware was noticeably more preserved than pieces of base metal. The shape is also repeated in later produced glass.
