Notes The decoration on the inside of the bowl consists of six sections defined by two dark blue lines. Black onion-shaped arabesque medallions dominate the white field. This bowl is one of a whole series of vessels whose aesthetics are based on the same tricolor of blue, black and white. It is dominated by so-called aquatic weed forms. Its popularity stems from the fact that the ornament can be drawn directly onto the background with a free, unrestrained brush stroke. This freedom can also be seen here at the top of the medallion with its leaves facing upwards. However, this expression is tamed by the more classic split leaves at the bottom. This combination of free and constrained elements creates an aesthetically appealing tension.
Sample Text Axel Langer “Vase” in Discover Islamic Art Collections. Museum Without Borders, 2026. https://islamicart.museumwnf.org/database_item.php?id=object;EPM;sw;Mus21;25;ar
