Notes
Ivory armchairs engraved with patterns of flowers and leaves, as well as fairy/mythical beasts and birds, featuring a mirrored central frame with a dotted tortoise shell over multiple perforated armrests, a background decorated with jewelry-like metal elements, a seat on solid front legs of fluted ivory, and forward-slanting back legs carried by engraved peacocks painted in brass and gold, with mechanical springs that form a flap of wings when placed. Weight on her back. But the association of peacocks with thrones goes back to Shah Jahan’s famous peacock-shaped throne, which was made in 1635 AD.
