Notes
This treatise, devoted to veterinary medicine and the attention that should be given to horses, consists of three parts, divided into thirty chapters or sections, some of which are missing. The texts are copied in brown ink and in Moroccan cursive letters, bearing varying vowels. Partial letter movements and pronunciation signals are indicated in the same color (brown), while each page contains seventeen lines. I wrote some words in the text and titles in red; The third part ends with a page giving the date of the manuscript without mentioning the name of the copyist. The importance of the manuscript is evident in nine miniatures that adorn the text, sometimes accompanied by explanations, and depicting a lone horse or accompanied by a healer caring for it, including a horse in the pasture, examining the arrangement of the teeth and protrusions, giving treatment with a horn, a horse swimming, and a man examining by ear a horse whose mouth is afflicted with a disease that prevents it from eating normally. Each miniature is arranged within a square area, occupying approximately the entire width of the page, and has the same height as the written area, and is sometimes surrounded by three red lines. The characters and horses, as well as their surroundings, were drawn with great realism and many details. Figures stand out for scenes taking place indoors against a solid green or blue background, or against a tiled floor. In the miniatures showing the horse in the pasture, the background is indicated by a gradation of the color of the sky from violet-tinged midnight blue at the top, to pinkish white at the horizon.
