Notes
During the archaeological excavations and restorations that took place in Al-Qastal in 1983, eight limestone stones engraved with floral and geometric shapes were found, including these two stones. These stones were used at one time to decorate the Umayyad Palace in Qastal, and a number of them were reused in the restoration work that took place in 1983. Decorated stones were an important element in the decoration of the Umayyad palaces, especially those bearing floral and geometric shapes. These two stones formed part of a door lintel and a frieze on the eastern façade of the palace. One of the two stones is decorated with four rosettes divided into two equal halves by a decorative element, and the other stone is decorated with a simple rosette with six petals placed within a circle and surrounded by flowers.
