Notes The bowl depicts a human figure consisting of a knight mounted with birds and flowers on a yellow background. To the left of the person along the frame there is an inscription in Kufic-like script. The decoration of the bowl with yellow, green and black is typical of Nishapur pottery. The display of similar figures is often associated with Sasanian hunting images, but the image could also represent a polo player. Later in the Seljuk period, polo displays were often used in both luster and enamelled vessels.
